National Italian Exam Professional Item Writing Opportunity
The National Italian Exam is recruiting item writers to write items for the 2022 exam. Item writer recruitment is ongoing and will close on June 30th. If you are interested and your skills and experience match with what the NIE Committee is looking for, you will receive further directions for training as well as information about the honorarium. Consultancy contracts are year-by-year, but may be renewed based on item writing performance and item development needs.

- Application deadline: June 30th, 2021
- Training session: first week of July 2021
- Initial Item Writing Activity: July, August 2021
- First Draft of Items: the first draft of the items should be completed and sent to the Committee by September 10th, 2021
- Revisions: Fall 2021, January 2022
- Type of items: selected response multiple choices, matching
- Sources: authentic or semi-authentic texts
- Skills: listening/viewing and reading
- Number of questions: from 50 to 100 (not all the questions correspond to an item; for example an item like a reading passage can have two questions)
- Levels: depending on the time and the number of selected candidates, a writer can work on one level (with a total of 50 questions) to a maximum of 2 levels (with a total of 100 questions)
Application Process
- Application Form: complete the AATI National Italian Exam Professional Item Writing Opportunity. Candidates will be asked to upload the following documents directly on the application form:
- Item Sample: provide one reading item of your choice, following the sample specifications that you will find in "More Information". You can find additional examples on our website.
- Resume: upload your resume directly in the application form. If you have trouble with the uploading process, you can send it to [email protected] (Word or PDF format only)
