Exam Registration Information

What do I need to know before registering my students?
  • Before registering students, teachers should familiarize with the structure of the exam, in particular they need to consider the exam levels and categories, as well as the typologies of students that are participating. Click on the links below to read a detailed information on these three criteria.  Home-schooled students, students who have studied Italian outside a traditional school setting, and college students can participate in the competition, but should contact the NIE director to determine the exam level ([email protected]).

How do I register for the exam?
The NIE is delivered electronically on the web platform, Lingco. Follow the steps below to register for the NIE:

  1. Create an account in Lingco.  To register for the NIE, you’ll need a special code, which we send directly to teachers to ensure the security of the registration process. If you participated last year, we’ve already sent you the registration link—please check your spam folder if you haven’t seen it. To help ensure you receive our emails, please check that your inbox is not full and that your email provider is not blocking messages from our domain. Adding our email address ([email protected]) to your safe sender list may also help prevent issues. If you haven’t received the email or if this is your first time participating in the NIE, please use this link to request your registration code.  Additionally, you can also use the Lingco Help icon to request the code if needed.
  2. Select exam level(s). Once you have your account, you will be able to select the level(s) of exam in which you are interested.  Follow carefully the guidelines to choose the appropriate level for your class. Choosing a level that does not reflect your students' proficiency level or years of study will be cause for disqualification. At this point you will able to select the total number of "seats" (students) and include other general information. This will generate an invoice and a code that should be used to finalize your payment. See more info on the payment page.
  3. Assign students to level(s).
  4. Send invitation to students to join.  Ask your school to include Lingco on their whitelist otherwise you and your students might not be able to receive messages from them.
  5. Select the appropriate category following the instructions.
  6. Make sure students complete the demographic questionnaire on Lingco.

For a more detailed and up-to-date registration process, please use the Registration Guide below.
